How to Access Subsidised Dexcom G6 CGM

Getting your type 1 patients with diabetes started on the Dexcom G6 CGM System is easy and affordable with the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) CGM Subsidy Initiative. We have teams in place to support every step of the process. The CGM Subsidy Initiative can be broken down into two streams;

1

Fully Subsidised – for restricted groups of people living with type 1 diabetes. This was originally introduced in 1 April 2017.

2

Partially Subsidised – for all Australians living with type 1 diabetes, where a small co-payment is required. This was introduced in 1 July 2022.

Stream A: Fully Subsidised – Restricted Groups

Although all individuals living with type 1 diabetes in Australia can now access subsidised CGM technologies, some people are eligible to access fully subsidised CGM products – they are outlined below:

Stream B: Partially Subsidised – All others living with type 1 diabetes

As of 1 July 2022, the government expanded access to subsidised CGM technologies for all other individuals living with type 1 diabetes. The individuals in this stream can access partially subsidised CGM technologies for a small co-payment Via this stream, the cost of Dexcom G6 is $32.10/month.

To check if your patient may fit one of the above groups and so can access fully subsidised CGM, please click on the relevant title – this will redirect you to the eligibility criteria on the NDSS website.

To determine if eligible for either fully subsidised or partially subsidised CGM, follow these steps:

1

With your patient, review the eligibility criteria available at ndss.com.au/about-the-ndss/cgm-initiative/

2

Complete the relevant Access Form found at ndss.com.au/about-the-ndss/cgm-initiative/. On this Access Form, you will need to nominate what address you would like the initial Dexcom CGM system sent to.

Diabetes Australia will contact your customer to confirm eligibility for access to subsidised CGM products
