Getting your patients started on a Dexcom G6 CGM System is easy and affordable with the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) CGM Subsidy Initiative. We have teams in place to support every step of the process. The CGM Subsidy Initiative can be broken down into two streams;
Full subsidy - People who have Type 1 Diabetes and also meet additional criteria are eligible, such as those under 21 years old, during pregnancy, or concessional status. No co-payment required - access Dexcom for free.
Partial subsidy - Everyone with Type 1 Diabetes is eligible. Co-payment of approximately $32.10 made at the pharmacy.
For those that do not have Type 1 diabetes and are not eligible for NDSS funding, they can purchase directly on our online shop here
NDSS Health Professional Portal
The NDSS Health Professional Portal, is designed to simplify the NDSS registration process for both health professionals and their patients. Our portal offers a streamlined, near real-time registration process, providing patients with their NDSS registration number promptly.
By utilising the NDSS Health Professional Portal, authorized healthcare providers can facilitate the same-day purchase of subsidised diabetes products, including the Dexcom CGM, for eligible patients. This access is available through designated NDSS Access Points, typically community pharmacies.
Fully Subsidised
Although all individuals living with type 1 diabetes in Australia can now access subsidised CGM technologies, some people are eligible to access fully subsidised CGM products – they are outlined below:
- Children and young people aged under 21 years with type 1 diabetes
- People with type 1 diabetes aged 21 years or older
- Women with type 1 diabetes who are actively planning pregnancy, pregnant, or immediately post-pregnancy
- Children and young people under 21 years with conditions very similar to type 1 diabetes who require insulin.
Partially Subsidised – All others living with type 1 diabetes
Your patients can access partly subsidised Dexcom G6 CGM via the NDSS CGM Subsidy Initiative, for as little as $32.10 per month. To determine if eligible for either fully subsidised or partially subsidised CGM, follow these steps:
With your patient, review the eligibility criteria available at www.ndss.com.au/about-the-ndss/cgm-access/
Complete the relevant Access Form found at www.ndss.com.au/about-the-ndss/cgm-access/. On this Access Form, the patient will need to nominate what address you would they would like the initial Dexcom CGM system sent to.
Diabetes Australia will contact your customer to confirm eligibility for access to subsidised CGM products
Are your patients looking to switch over to Dexcom?
NDSS registrants are able to switch from another subsidised CGM product to Dexcom G6 at anytime!
Individuals will simply need to follow the steps below in order to move to their preferred CGM system.
Step 1: They will need to Download the 'Update or Ceasing'
Form and fill it out.
Step 2: Your patient will need to give you the form, and you will need to lodge this for them. This can also be
accessed via the HCP portal.
Please note, Dexcom G7 is currently not subsidised under the NDSS for people living with Type 1 diabetes. We are however working alongside the government to add Dexcom G7 into the existing subsidy initiative. As soon as we have more information, we'll let you know.
In the meantime, the Dexcom G6 is currently subsidised for Australians living with type 1 diabetes through the NDSS.
* Individuals must meet the criteria of the restricted groups to access fully-subsidised CGM product. For more information, on the eligibility criteria, visit ndss.com.au/about-the-ndss/cgm-initiative
